Red Ball and his friends are out enjoying the day when they come across another red ball who's shaped like a cube. The former ball explains that an army of Gray Cubes has been rounding up all the balls on the planet and taking them to a factory where the balls are being forcibly changed into cubes by the factory's machinery. Realizing that the balls' way of life could be ended forever if the Gray Cubes keep doing this, Red Ball takes it upon himself to take the world back from the Gray Cubes! He rolls across the grasslands, squashing Gray Cubes along the way, until he comes across the boss Cube, the Monocle Cube, who's been leading the invasion on the grasslands. After a quick battle, Red Ball defeats the Monocle Cube and sends the Gray Cubes running. But his adventure isn't over yet...
Having finally found the Gray Cubes' base of operations, Red Ball storms the factory and traverses the dangerous industrial territory, fighting his way through the Gray Cubes and evading the deadly factory machinery. At the heart of the factory he encounters the Mecha Cube, a giant robotic boss Cube created to guard the factory. After a long, grueling battle, Red Ball destroys the Mecha Cube and breaks all his friends out of their cages, causing the factory to fall apart and come down. All the balls flee the factory just before it collapses, and once it falls over the pollution in the sky disperses, leaving behind a sunny sky as the balls celebrate their freedom.
Red Ball 4 has you travel through a series of levels that feature fairly simple platforming challenges, physics puzzles, and basic combat. Each chapter of the game constitutes one world and contains 15 levels, with the last one being a boss battle instead of a normal level. The goal of every level (minus boss levels) is simply to reach the end without getting killed by enemies or hazards. Some hazards only make you lose one health point, but others can kill you instantly. If you die, you get sent back to the most recent checkpoint you reached. In the Flash version and premium mobile version, this bears little consequence as there is no life limit; if playing the free mobile version, however, lives are capped at a maximum of 5 and you lose one every time you die. Lives regenerate every 15 minutes; if you run out of lives, you lose the level and can't play again until your lives regenerate.
Aside from dying, certain puzzles can also set you back if you mess them up. Many of the game's puzzles involve interacting with one or more items, and while most of them can be solved without much difficulty, some are set up in such a way that you can accidentally lose the item you need to solve the puzzle and progress. If this happens, you'll be unable to finish the level and the game will respawn you at the most recent checkpoint.

In episode 4 it is revealed that remaining survivors of squares escape by going to the moon, turning the moon into square. The red-ball goes on to stop them, as the squares got replacement for their deceased leader, the replacement (Moon Boss) changed moon and gained control over the gravity, however even there Red Ball destroys him and other squares but most of them were banished, left to cause trouble.
In Episode 5, Red Ball realized that Squares returned as they kidnapped his girlfriend, eventually finding out the secret Cave was built for the Squares, the red ball is forced to face off against Cave Boss (presumably the third replacement) who gets defeated and falls, but does not get destroyed, once the Red Ball rescues his girlfriend, they escape and the hole that leads to cave gets closed.
Squares may seem as mischievous dim-witted weaklings who gets destroyed for fun, however they should not be underestimated, they are played as serious and destructive yet smart villains who are blinded by their own egotism, they are willing to wipe out red balls by torturing them into another shape or simply murdering them, since they don't show any hesitation in murdering the player and are seriously implied to have murdered many more before the story itself started. Also the traps they use to protect their building leads to the unfortunate target being brutally murdered, making them a very sadistic type of enemies to exist.

Red Ball 4 is not just about moving left or right then pressing a button to jump. Remember when we said it utilizes physics elements? If you want to be able to jump far, you need momentum. You have to give yourself enough space to roll, and once you have enough momentum, that is the time for you to jump. This concept is even more important when dealing with puzzles in the game. You will sometimes encounter puzzles where you need to move a rolling object to a switch, but you also have to make it to a gate at the same time. To do this, you will need to push the object just enough to let it roll on its own towards the switch, then use the remaining time to build your momentum and jump towards the gate just as it opens. It is tricky at first, but with enough practice, you will be able to master this.
While you are playing, you will sometimes notice the red ball frown. That frown means you have missed an important part of the level and you no longer have any chances of beating it. This often happens when you drop an important item or miss it and pass a checkpoint. When you see the red ball frown, you might as well restart the level. There are some levels that are still beatable even with asad red ball, but it will be a lot more difficult to do so.
Another tricky enemy you will encounter is the one that explodes. They deal a lot of damage and are good at going after the red ball. You will need to be very careful when trying to bounce on their head. You can try to lure them first then prepare your jump. Just make sure you run away immediately after hitting them.
